Mourning

A friend once told me:

The grief you feel is proportional to the love you’ve felt.

The intensity of my emotions indicates the:

The depth I carved.

The roots I laid.

The bond I created.

Here —
in these parts,
with these people,
with this land.

So no, this isn’t sadness,
it’s mourning:

The end of a chapter.

The knowledge that this period is over.

Accepting that it is time for a change.

Acknowledging with my soul,
that with the start of the next chapter,
even “going back” to visit this one:

— will no longer be the same.

It doesn’t mean that I’m not excited for what comes next.

It simply means I must first say goodbye.
With time, love and layers;
Like I said Hello –
When this chapter first began.
