I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself, and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

From ancient Japaneses proverbs to modern day psychology, the self has always been a topic of conversation. All else aside, what I find most interesting is the internal conflict that rises when: we perceive ourselves differently to how we are perceived by others, and this makes one wonder which perception is based on truth.*
The turmoil we feel when we believe we aren’t being true to our self, can be seen as one of the causes for loss in self identity. So why do we feel torn between our concept of self and that which others place on us?
Social acceptance. The desire to be accepted, to fit in- is the reason why we use other peoples perception of who I am supposed to be to mold our self- we have an innate biological desire to belong – so we conform.
I don’t know about you but this doesn’t sit well with me. I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: awareness is the first step. If we beginning challenging these perceptions.. well one truth will lead to the next and who knows? Maybe somewhere along the journey you’ll finally begin to see what sustains you when all else falls away… So maybe you should try and let the light in too.
